‘They were just lucky,if not we’re stronger than them’: Trippier shares what he thinks was the difference between Newcastle and Arsenal today
Kieran Trippier spoke to Sky Sports after today’s defeat to Arsenal and the Newcastle United skipper highlighted what he believes was the key difference between the sides.
Newcastle could think themselves unlucky coming away from St James’ Park off the back of a 0-2 defeat to title-chasing Arsenal
The Magpies held their own against the Gunners in every area of the pitch with luck playing a huge part in the final outcome with Newcastle having hit the post twice and having a penalty decision overturned.
Speaking to Sky Sports at full-time, Kieran Trippier pointed out the biggest key difference between the sides: “There were a lot of chances in the first half, we hit the post, but the game was about fine margins today and Arsenal took their chances

“The first goal is always crucial. We started on the front foot, at the start of the game we went after Arsenal, we had chance after chance but Arsenal were more clinical than us today.”
Trippier was absolutely spot on, it all came down to Arsenal taking their chances when they popped up. Granted, Newcastle could and indeed should have defended both goals better, but Newcastle found themselves in some great positions and came away with nothing.
In the interview with Sky Sports, Trippier also mentioned that this defeat felt a lot different to the one against Aston Villa. He said that there are different ways to lose, and again, he’s hit the nail on the head.

Coming away from that Aston Villa defeat it was all doom and gloom, but the lads can still hold their heads up high after this one as it never felt like they weren’t trying. That was never more evident in the spicy atmosphere on the pitch that started to threaten to boil over several times.
With so much on the line for both sides it was bound to be a feisty affair and really, I’m shocked that there were no red cards.
Now we must put this defeat behind us and bounce back next week with a win against Sam Allardyce‘s Leeds.
