‘Really intelligent and brave’: Arteta says one Arsenal player was ‘exceptional’ v Newcastle today
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has said that Jorginho was “exceptional” against Newcastle United at St. James’ Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Arteta has been quoted as saying by ArseBlogNews that Jorginho is a “really intelligent player” who was the best footballer in the match between Newcastle and Arsenal.
The Gunners beat the Magpies 2-0 to maintain their pressure on defending champions Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
Former Manchester United defender Gary Neville was impressed with Jorginho, and so was ex-Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given, although he was not impressed by some of his “antics”.
Mikel Arteta on Jorginho for Arsenal vs Newcastle United
Arteta said about Jorginho: “He was exceptional. He was man of the match.
“There were question marks because it was going to be really physical but you want to go physicality against physicality, we’d have no chance to win the game, so we had to try for something different.
“I think he understood the game really well, he’s a really intelligent player, he gives a lot of security to the team. He dominated the game in many moments.”
Top class
In our view, Jorginho is one of the best players at Arsenal and was truly superb against Newcastle United in the Premier League onSunday afternoon.
The Italian midfielder does not always start for the Gunners, but whenever he has played for Arsenal, he has done his job well.
You can see why the Gunners signed the Italian star from London and Premier League rivals Chelsea in the January transfer window.
Against Newcastle on Sunday, Jorginho was strong and solid in the middle of the park, controlled the tempo of the game, knew when to slow things down, and got stuck in.
