‘I wish I could be here one more season to play best for Arsenal’: Arsenal star player send Emotional message to team-mates as he’s considering leaving the club in the summer
Arsenal star has admitted to team-mates that he’s keen on a return to Germany.
The Switzerland skipper joined Arsenal from Borussia Monchengladbach in 2016 for a fee of around £34m.
Xhaka’s endured ups and downs at the Emirates and he’s twice come close to returning to Germany.
The midfielder was keen on joining Hertha Berlin in 2020 following Mikel Arteta’s appointment but the Spaniard managed to convince the Swiss to remain at the club.
Xhaka has turned his time at the club around and has been in fine form for the Gunners this season.
However, Xhaka has just 14 months remaining on his contract in north London and he’s keen to return closer to his homeland.
Bayer Leverkusen have made their interest known in Xhaka and GOAL say he’s told team-mates that he’d like to return to Germany.
The Bundesliga club would rather wait until 2024 before agreeing a pre-contract agreement with Xhaka, rather than putting up a fee for him this summer.
But Arteta wants to keep Xhaka, as he values his leadership and flexibility in midfield.
Arsenal, though, are keen on signing West Ham skipper Declan Rice this summer and that would squeeze Xhaka’s playing time.
West Ham want around £120m for Rice but Arsenal value him at closer to £70m.
