Arsenal are in talks with Leicester City over a summer transfer for Timothy Castagne, Sacha Tavolieri reports
The Gunners are currently without right-back Takehiro Tomiyasu after a knee surgery, and manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that he may not return to first-team action until September.
Meanwhile, the Japan international could also be involved in the Asian Cup between January and February. These could be reasons why the club are looking to pursue a new right-back.
It is now reported by Tavolieri that the Gunners are going for Castagne. He is considered as the alternative to Ivan Fresneda.
The Belgian journalist added that talks are underway with Leicester in order to find an agreement for the 27-year-old.
Castagne would be a good acquisition
The former Atalanta man had a tough campaign with the Foxes, but the same could be said for his teammates
The Belgian has the chance to redeem himself with a new challenge. In our view, he could be a good back-up for Ben White. Castagne averaged 2.4 tackles and 2.5 clearances per game last season.
With his versatility, he could also provide cover for the left-back spot next season. The Gunners are facing the prospect of losing Kieran Tierney amid his desire to play regular first-team football
Castagne is currently valued at £24 million by Transfermarkt, but could be available for less after the Foxes’ relegation.
If Arsenal manage to secure his services for around £15m this summer, it would represent a good piece of business.
Some Arsenal fans may prefer to sign Real Valladolid’s Fresneda instead, but the teenager is still relatively unproven.
With the Gunners back in the Champions League next term, manager Mikel Arteta may prefer to go for an experienced signing.
