Arsenal and Manchester City cult hero Bacary Sagna believes Arsenal key man from seasons ago will “surely” ask to leave the Gunners in the summer.
The 40-year-old spoke to The Games Cabin about a number of topics, including several Arsenal players.
Tierney’s Arsenal future is currently very uncertain, as he has gone from indispensable to the fringes of the squad.
The 25-year-old (Kieren Tierney) joined the Gunners from Celtic back in 2019.
Tierney established himself as the Gunners’ first-choice left-back prior to the 2022/23 campaign.
However, the arrival of summer signing Oleksandr Zinchenko led to Tierney slipping down the pecking order.
The Scotland international has also has some injury and fitness issues, which have also contributed to this.
Sagna reckons Zinchenko will stay at Arsenal for a long time, which means Tierney’s situation isn’t likely to change.
With that in mind, a top player like Tierney will probably ask for a transfer, according to the former Gunners ace.
“He obviously hasn’t been doing amazing and this season the club have brought in Oleksandr Zinchenko, who’s become a key player in the team and in that left-back position,” said Sagna.
“I think Zinchenko is here to stay for a long time, so Kieran is going to have to have a discussion with the club.
“Arsenal are obviously aware of his quality but if Kieran wants to play more, then I’m not sure he’s going to get in ahead of Zinchenko.
“It will be his decision of course and he can still be a part of Arsenal’s squad but as a player, you always want to play more, so he will surely be asking to leave the club.”
It’s a shame that Tierney has fallen down the pecking order, but that’s football.
Zinchenko has come in and has helped take Arsenal to the next level.
Tierney is an ‘outstanding’ player and will no doubt get into the starting XI of most Premier League clubs.
With that in mind, a move away is probably the best thing for all parties.
Arsenal have the chance to make some profit on him, while the player himself can get himself regular football.
And another club will be getting themselves a superb footballer.
