A wave of sad and disheartening news has just hit the Man United camp only hours before the Man city clash
Manchester United will travel to city rivals Manchester City on Sunday afternoon without three key members of Ruben Amorim’s first-team squad.
United return from the international break after winning just one of their first three Premier League games and find themselves ninth in the table. However, they will be looking to add more points to the board when they travel to the Etihad Stadium.
Pep Guardiola’s men are 13th in the Premier League and back-to-back defeats. Like United, City have their own injury problems ahead of the first Manchester derby of the season.
With that in mind, The Manchester Evening News provides you the latest news on injuries coming out of Old Trafford..
Matheus Cunha
After starting the season quite well for United, Cunha was forced off in the first-half of the 3-2 win over Burnley last time out. He was replaced by Joshua Zirkzee before heading straight down the tunnel.
He later withdrew from the Brazil team for the international break. Now, Amorim has confirmed that Sunday’s trip across the city has come too soon for him. “They [Cunha, Mount and Dalot] are out for this game, I don’t know how long it’s going to take.
We need these guys to be a competitive team.” When asked how long he is out for, Amorim added: “I don’t want to say. If you talk to Cunha outside, he will say he can play this game. They are pushing really hard.”
Potential return date: Saturday 20 September, Chelsea (H).
Mason Mount
Like Cunha, Mount came off in the win two weeks ago. The England international was replaced at half-time by Kobbie Mainoo after playing 30 minutes with an injury.
Amorim has confirmed that the midfielder is also out of the City game.
Potential return date: Saturday 20 September, Chelsea (H).
Diogo Dalot
Dalot had been a regular in the United team last season and he has featured in all three league games this term. After providing an assist for Bryan Mbeumo in the Burnley win, Dalot was forced to withdraw from Portugal’s squad with a ‘muscle discomfort’.
Amorim has confirmed that the wing-back is also out of the City game.
Potential return date: Saturday 20 September, Chelsea (H).
Lisandro Martinez
Martinez has been sidelined with an ACL injury since February. The defender has missed a lot of action but he is gradually progressing in his recovery.
It’s understood that the Argentine is now back training on the grass at Carrington.
Potential return date: Sunday, October 25, Brighton (H)
