After completing Harry Maguire deal today: Man united set to bring in £35m champions league star as replacement for Maguire, personal terms agreed already,He will be Ten Hag’s 5th signing
Harry Maguire isn’t even out of the door yet, and Manchester United are already progressing in their talks to sign his replacement.
On Wednesday, the Red Devils reached an agreement in principle over a fee with West Ham for their former captain. The Hammers are prepared to pay in the region of £30m to sign the England international. Still, they are yet to find an agreement over personal terms with Maguire, who trained at Carrington, as usual, this week.
Regardless, United have started weighing up a move for Benjamin Pavard, and reports in Germany suggest the Premier League giants are in the driving seat to sign the Frenchman, who’s also attracting interest from the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Manchester City.
According to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, concrete talks are ongoing for the 27-year-old. Bayern Munich boss Thomas Tuchel wants to keep the player and his departure would be considered a ‘massive loss’ in Munich.
However, he’s determined to leave, and with his contract set to run out in less than 12 months, there isn’t much the Bavarians can do. It’s understood they will accept a fee of around €30m (£25.9m) for him this summer.
Pavard is open to joining Erik ten Hag’s squad despite Raphael Varane’s presence in the squad. Maguire is currently viewed as United’s fourth-choice centre-back and his replacement is unlikely to get a nod ahead of Varane or Lisandro Martinez from the get-go.
The English side are also reported to be monitoring the situation of Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo and Bayer Leverkusen talent Edmond Tapsoba.
For now, though, Pavard appears to be on top of their list, particularly because of his experience and ability to play as both – a right-sided central defender and a right-back.
