Newcastle United star Bruno Guimaraes was a happy man after his side knocked Arsenal out of the Carabao Cup.
The Gunners lost the first leg 2-0 at the Emirates. Everyone feared the worst after that game, but there was still some hope that they could turn things around.
However, Eddie Howe’s game plan was absolutely fantastic, and Newcastle completely deserved to beat the Gunners on Wednesday night and go through to the final.
However, one moment in the game could’ve completely changed the result.
Bruno Guimaraes reacts to Martin Odegaard’s missed chance during Newcastle vs Arsenal
Arsenal had to take the initiative and attack the game on Wednesday night.
They were two goals down from the first leg, and everyone knew that the first goal of the game would have a major say on the result.
The Gunners got lucky early on after Alexander Isak’s goal was ruled out for offside. They needed to capitalise on that luck, and they had a golden opportunity.
Skipper Martin Odegaard found himself in a great position inside the box to score, but the Arsenal star’s right-footed shot struck the post and went out.
Less than a minute later, Newcastle ran up the other end and scored after Isak struck the crossbar and Jacob Murphy tapped in the rebound.
Guimaraes was asked about that after the game, and the Toon skipper admitted that he was delighted to see his Arsenal counterpart miss his opportunity.
He told Sky Sports: “Yeah, I was very happy he missed that because it was a big opportunity for them. And I think after two minutes we score, so (it was) a game changer.
“I think we knew that if we scored first it would be amazing for us. So, everything was like we planned, very happy, now we celebrate with the boys.”

Odegaard has been one of the best players in the Premier League over the last two seasons, but he hasn’t quite been at his usual best this term.
The Norway international missed a good chunk of the campaign after suffering an ankle injury earlier in the season, but he did come back strongly.
However, in front of goal, Odegaard has been really poor this season. He has scored just three times all campaign, which is not enough for a central attacking midfielder.
Arsenal will head to Dubai for a mid-season break now, and Arteta has to find a way to get Odegaard back to his best.
If the Norwegian continues to struggle, the Arsenal manager could have to take him off and use young Ethan Nwaneri in his role instead.
That would be a bit embarrassing for the club captain.
