‘After what happened today’: Man United star told he is ‘out’ of Ten Hag’s ‘project’ following brutal pre-season snub
Manchester United defender has been told he is not part of Erik ten Hag’s plans as the 29-year-old has been left out of their pre-season squad.
The defender spent last season on loan with Marseille and is now expected to find a new club this summer.
Man Utd recently announced their 31-man squad for their US tour, which includes the likes of Dean Henderson and Anthony Elanga, who have been linked with moves away.
Bailly has not been included in the squad though as he is no longer part of Ten Hag’s project going forward.
“Eric Bailly, not part of Manchester Utd squad travelling for US tour as he’s out of the project and expected to leave, “Fabrizio Romano clarified on Twitter.
“Alex Telles, out of the list too as he’s set to join Al Nassr once documents will be signed.”
Marseille did hold the option to sign Bailly on a permanent basis following his loan spell, but they decided not to exercise this option.
Former Ivory Coast boss Patrice Beaumelle described Bailly’s loan spell with the French club as ‘a mess’.
“It’s a mess. He remains and will remain one of the best defenders I have known. He had discomfort behind his hamstrings which prevented him from continuing,” he told Africa Foot United.
“Yet he hoped to be quiet, had good feelings. Then he disappeared from radar against all odds.
“It’s a shame because a 100% Bailly could have helped the team to grab points to be second. He has not always been 100%, it is perhaps the fault of bad luck, when he loved OM and would have appreciated being part of this project.”
While Bailly won’t be given a chance to impress under Ten Hag, Donny van de Beek could be given a fresh opportunity.
He has been included in Man Utd’s 31-man pre-season squad and scored United’s only goal of the game against Lyon.
“This was a big moment for me,” Van de Beek told MUTV. “There’s still a chance I move, but we’re keeping it open.
“It was great, my first game after six months. I don’t have to tell you that the injury is such a mental difficult period. To be back on the pitch was great and of course it is nice if you score a goal as well.”
