Alan Shearer says £93k-a-week Arsenal man ‘frustrated’ Chelsea, praises combination with Bukayo …
Alan Shearer has included Ben White in his Premier League Team of the Week after Arsenal beat Chelsea on Sunday afternoon – praising his ability to “frustrate” Chelsea’s attackers and praising his combination with Bukayo Saka.
White, 25, has been converted into a right-back having joined as a centre-back from Brighton. That is, after William Saliba returned to the Gunners from Marseille after a wonderful loan spell. Saliba is shining in the middle of defence.
England international star White has moved to right-back, and is impressing. So much so, that he is keeping both Takehiro Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares on the sidelines. He has started all 13 games for Arsenal this season, so far.
He has even laid on two assists. Shearer was full of praise for White, praising his ability to combine with Saka: “Ensured Chelsea’s attackers endured a frustrating time and combined well with Bukayo Saka at the other end.”
SHEARER PRAISES WHITE AFTER ARSENAL BEAT CHELSEA ON SUNDAY
White has got to be in the England squad, hasn’t he? England could be without a whole host of right-backs. Kyle Walker could miss the tournament, while Reece James is also a doubt. White’s versatility makes him a real option.
He was included in the Euro 2020 squad under Gareth Southgate – despite only playing twice beforehand. It is a smart choice, given White can play in a back four or three as a centre-back, now at right-back and even in holding midfield.
But White’s last cap came in March, featuring in friendlies against Switzerland and Ivory Coast. With the England squad set to be announced on Thursday, White will be delighted to have starred in a win over Chelsea. Not just that, either.
But also, to win a place in Shearer’s Team of the Week. He has the momentum and it might even be considered a surprise if the £93k-a-week ace is not included, right now. Southgate has got some serious decisions to make.
