‘All I need to do is to work Hard,my time will come very soon’ – £110k-per-wk Arsenal player vows to break into Arteta’s starting XI soon
Arsenal midfielder has revealed that he still has plans to break into the starting XI despite his recent struggles for playing minutes.
The Italian international joined the Gunners from Chelsea last January, featuring in 16 Premier League games and starting nine.
Jorginho is yet to start for Arsenal this term, coming off the bench thrice and totalling just 18 minutes on the pitch.
The 31-year-old is not willing to sulk about it and is looking to force his way into the plans of manager Mikel Arteta.
“I have a very good relationship with Mikel,” Jorginho told the Sun.
“He doesn’t need to explain anything to me. All I need to do is stay calm, work hard every day and show him that I’m ready to play.
“For me knocking on the manager’s door has never been the right thing to do. I have always done the talking on the pitch, chattering has never been my thing.
“I feel good and I am happy at Arsenal but it’s obvious that every player wants to play. If you look back on all the teams I played for, I always had to fight to get my place.
“Nothing has ever been gifted to me, I had to sweat a lot. I always had to work my socks off, you know? The club’s project is to keep growing and the recent transfer window proved it. At the end of the day, what counts is that Arsenal are collecting points and that the team is doing well.”
The signing of Declan Rice in the summer has limited the playing chances of the former Napoli star, and it will be interesting to see if he can convince the manager to start playing regularly.
Jorginho, who currently earns £110,000 a week at Arsenal, brings plenty of experience to the table and could prove valuable in the dressing room and on the pitch going forward this term as the Gunners look to impress in the Premier League and Champions League.
William Saliba claimed the Italian has the best football IQ in the Premier League, and having such a player in their squad is a boost for the North Londoners.
Jorginho won the Europa League in 2018-19 and the Champions League in 2020-21 with Chelsea, winning the UEFA Player of the Year in the same season.
He also won the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in the same year, making the FIFA FIFPro World11.
The Arsenal midfielder played a key role as Italy won the European Championship in 2021, making the team of the tournament, and that winning mentality and experience can come in handy at Emirates Stadium.
