Manchester United cruised into the EFL Cup last-16 after thrashing League One outfit Barnsley 7-0 at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

The confidence in United camp was very low after the 3-0 defeat against Liverpool before the international break.

However, they have since made a huge comeback to completely change the mood around the club, claiming back-to-back wins over Southampton and Barnsley.

Tuesday’s game at Old Trafford saw Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen all scoring twice, while much-maligned winger Antony also got on the scoresheet with a first-half penalty.

The National media were effusive in their praise of the Red Devils’ performance but were particularly impressed with Garnacho.

The Daily Mail rated the Argentina international’s display 8/10 and said he was practically ‘unstoppable’.

The young winger scored two clinical goals and also twice set up Rashford.

The 20-year-old also made three key passes, completed all three long balls and created three big chances.

Garnacho has been incredible for Manchester United since earning his first-team debut in April 2022.

Last season, he featured in 36 Premier League matches, making 11 goal contributions in the process.

Garnacho started his first game of the 2024-25 season in the 3-0 defeat by Liverpool and looked set to keep his place against Southampton.

However, he was dropped to the bench by manager Erik ten Hag, with Amad Diallo playing on the right wing.

It later emerged the manager’s decision to take the Argentine out of the starting XI was a tactical decision (per Manchester Evening News).
