Matt Upson has praised one Arsenal player after seeing something ‘dangerous’ from them during the Gunners’ 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion this Saturday night.
A second-half penalty from Joao Pedro after the Brighton striker clashed heads with William Saliba in the Arsenal box saw the Seagulls salvage a stalemate on home soil. Ethan Nwaneri made history to put Arsenal 1-0 ahead at Brighton with the midfielder’s goal in the first half.
Arsenal struggled to create many chances to create some distance between themselves and Brighton after Nwaneri scored in the 16th minute. The Amex Stadium outfit often fashioned the superior shots before Pedro placed a penalty past David Raya to equalise on 61 minutes.

Chances remained at a premium for Arsenal away at Brighton after losing their lead, and yet further points in the Premier League title race to Liverpool who now also have two games in hand. The Reds host Manchester United on Sunday and can go eight points clear at the top.
Yet, despite failing to score or pen an assist on the south coast, Gabriel Jesus still impressed Upson through the Arsenal forward’s movement away at Brighton. The former Gunners and even Seagulls centre-half believed Jesus gave Brighton’s defenders problems with his agility.
“Gabriel Jesus has that wriggle, which is dangerous,” Upson said on BBC Radio 5 Live. “The change in direction is very direct. He is hard to handle as a defender.”

Jesus made just his sixth Premier League start across his 17 appearances over a potential 18 games this term as Arsenal drew 1-1 at Brighton this Saturday night. But the 27-year-old did not add to his three goals for the season thus far and failed to score in back-to-back fixtures.

Now, while Upson admired the Sao Paulo native’s movement at the Amex, Jesus’ on-and-off form continued as Arsenal drew 1-1 with Brighton. His dynamic running also only led to two shots with one on target plus two chances created and two big chances missed on Saturday.
Jesus also won just three of the Arsenal forward’s 10 ground duels, despite Upson feeling he was hard for Brighton’s defenders to handle. Only Seagulls pair Pedro and Pervis Estupinan plus Arsenal’s Mikel Merino attempted as many duels, but they won six, five and four each.
