Manchester United suffered a 2-0 loss at the hands of Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal at the Emirates. Here are our player ratings from the game.
(A score of 6 is around average)
Andre Onana 5 – Couldn’t do much about the set-piece goals. Tried to come out to pick the ball from the air to ease the pressure on his defenders.
Harry Maguire 6 – Good display on his return to the starting XI after a lengthy period on the sidelines. Some good forward passes. Also produced a few excellent tackles and interceptions to thwart Arsenal attacks.
Matthijs de Ligt 7 – An assured performance up until Arsenal found the back of the net from their corner routines. Could have got on the score sheet but his headed effort was saved by David Raya.
Noussair Mazraoui 6 – Coasted through in the first half but dropped slightly in the second.
Diogo Dalot 4 – Should have perhaps done better with the golden opportunity that fell to him in the first half. A couple of sloppy moments on the ball.
Bruno Fernandes 8 – A mature performance in the middle of the park as one of the midfield two. Did well both in and out of possession. Unlucky to be on the losing team.
Manuel Ugarte 6 – Didn’t do too much wrong. Won his duels and challenges. Walked a tightrope for a lot of the second half but credit to him for not getting sent off.
Tyrell Malacia 5 – Big improvement from last week but it’s clear to see he still has some way to go before he’s fully up and going. Helped keep Bukayo Saka quiet in the first half. Harshly booked.
Mason Mount 4 – Looked to pounce on some second balls and pressed well but didn’t offer much on the ball or in terms of attacking play.
Alejandro Garnacho 3 – Clumsy performance. Slowed down most times he got into a dangerous area and the Arsenal defenders were comfortable against him. Rightfully among the first set of players to be taken off immediately after Arsenal’s opener.
Rasmus Hojlund 2 – Looked out of his depth against Arsenal’s physical defenders. Just a laboured performance. Didn’t hold up the ball well and barely had a sight of goal.
Substitutes
Amad Diallo 7 – A bright spark when he came on but unfortunately, it didn’t count for much at the end. Gave Zinchenko more to think about.
Joshua Zirkzee 6 – Some good touches and decent passes when he came on
Marcus Rashford 5 – Didn’t offer much.
Leny Yoro 7 – Showed glimpses of how he can slot into Ruben Amorim’s team. A few crucial blocks and tackles inside the box to deny Arsenal from scoring more goals.
Antony 5 – Tried a clever free-kick with Fernandes that forced Raya into a save.
