“Anytime I benched this particular player, we often play exciting football…I know the fans loves him so much but I don’t think he has any place in the lineups anymore, he’ll leave in January

There was no problems for Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday night with the north London side disposing of Sporting CP.

Mikel Arteta showed Pep Guardiola just how to handle the Portuguese outfit following Manchester City’s convincing defeat earlier in the season.

Arsenal were able to cruise to an emphatic 5-1 victory which has taken their points total up to 10 following their opening five Champions League games.

“Yeah, well, it’s true that the result is very different by the performance, and as well the intensity of the opponent that we faced when we played Inter,” Arteta told the Arsenal website.

“I was so pleased with what I saw, and I knew that in that pathway, good things were going to happen in Europe. Today we’ve been able to do that and replicate it and be even more efficient in the opposition half.

“And, very pleased because the team played with so much courage, because they are so good. and watching them live, I realised how good they are.”

Arsenal dominated Sporting CP in Arteta masterclass

Considering how Sporting dispatched of City just a matter of weeks ago, this really was a statement win for the Gunners.

Of course, Sporting are now without their manager in Ruben Amorim following his appointment at Manchester United.

However, Arteta clearly set his Arsenal side out with a game plan and they certainly executed it to perfection.
