Arsenal £77m blessing from Guardiola is a reason why Edu must explore third deal

Arsenal were unable to sign a winger in the summer transfer window, despite the clear need to strengthen in the wide areas. Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli have a lot of pressure to perform until the next opportunity to address this area of the pitch opens.

One player who the club were reportedly looking to sign in the summer transfer window was Marco Asensio. But, a deal never managed to materialise, meaning the winger stayed in the Spanish capital following the closing of the market.

However, Arsenal have the potential to explore a deal for a player who would certainly be much more suited to the team in Jack Grealish. His recent reported transfer interest away from Manchester City could see Mikel Arteta swoop in, considering that he was reportedly interested in the past.

Grealish is reportedly expecting to leave the club next summer, having asked his agent to find a new club to join. That’s according to 90Min, who report that the England international star is not expecting to stay at the Etihad Stadium, having struggled to guarantee a place in the team since his £100million move. CIES Football Observatory has valued him at £52million.

The England international has flirted with a potential move to the Gunners before, and it looked like he could have become an Arsenal player in 2021, but he eventually decided to make the switch to Manchester.

The Gunners had already signed two players from Pep Guardiola’s side in the summer as Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko joined the club for a combined fee of £77m. Both players have been a major success in the early weeks of the season, and Arteta could turn this into a trio of he decides to explore a deal for Grealish.

The Englishman’s versatility could also be a key factor in Edu deciding to pursue a deal as proposed deals for wingers in the summer transfer window fell through. Despite being a natural winger, Grealish can also feature in the middle of the park or in a more attacking midfield role.

Mikel Arteta had problems with the midfield last season due to the lack of quality in squad depth, and that has hindered the club’s progress at times. If the Spaniard opts for three players in the centre of midfield, then Grealish would also be an option to have on the left-hand side for the future.

Grealish would certainly be a good signing for the Gunners. Due to the success of previous Manchester City players to join Arsenal, it is certainly a deal that Edu should look to explore ahead of next season.
