Arsenal are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign the Ajax defender Jurrien Timber.
According to Fabrizio, Romano, Arsenal have submitted a second official bid for the 22-year-old defender and they are now closing in on his signature.
Apparently, the second bid is worth around €45-48 million and the player has already agreed personal terms with the Premier League club. Timber is expected to sign a contract with Arsenal until the summer of 2028.
The player is reportedly convinced with the Arsenal project and he wants to join the club this summer.
The Gunners needed to add more quality and depth to their defence and the arrival of the 22-year-old defender could prove to be a superb move.
The injury to William Saliba towards the end of the season derailed Arsenal’s title race and the Gunners must ensure that they have ample depth in every position.
Arsenal will be competing in the UEFA Champions League next season and they need a deeper squad to do well across multiple competitions.
Timber has been a key player for Ajax this past season and he has the ability to succeed in the Premier League as well.
The 22-year-old can operate as a central defender as well as a right-back. His versatility will be an added bonus for Arsenal and Mikel Arteta. The 22-year-old defender is still quite young and he is likely to improve further with coaching and experience.
Signing a defender of his quality for the reported €45-48 million could prove to be a bargain in the long run.
Mikel Arteta has done well to nurture talented young players at Arsenal, and he could help the Ajax defender fulfil his tremendous potential as well.
Meanwhile, Arsenal are thought to be keen on improving their midfield options as well and they have been heavily linked with a move for the West Ham United star Declan Rice. Arsenal managed to push Manchester City for the title this past season and they will be hoping to go all the way next year.
