Arsenal might have got two South American forwards through the door this summer, but they could be about to sign a third in the form of Lucas Paqueta.
The Gunners have signed Gabriel Jesus and Marquinhos this summer to add to their Brazilian contingent and according to reports from France, they now have eyes on Paqueta as well. Media Foot claims that the Gunners are more than interested in signing the Lyon star, and Mikel Arteta is even said to be confident he can woo the Brazilian into moving to London.
Paqueta has been one of the stars of the show in France for some time now and has been watched by Arsenal and Newcastle before. Indeed, a certain Thierry Henry has lauded the Lyon star in the past, calling him ‘one of the best’ in the game.
Lauded as ‘sensational‘ as well for his performances in France, Newcastle were looking to pay around £58m for Paqueta, who is good friends with Bruno Guimaraes. However, Media Foot reports how a bid of less than £50m might be enough to tempt Lyon into doing business.
Arsenal have been trying to sign Paqueta’s international teammate Raphinha, but that deal appears dead in the water.
Our View: Paqueta To Arsenal Would Be Superb For Arteta
This would be the icing on the cake really for Arsenal. The additions they’ve already made this summer are good enough but the idea of landing Paqueta as well is something to dream about.
For Lyon and Brazil, Paqueta has been excellent and the forward would seriously add yet more quality to this Arsenal side.
Furthermore, if he available for less than £50m, then that is a bargain in today’s market. Paqueta is a class act, and the idea of him and Jesus doing the business for Arsenal is one Gunners fans dream about.
