‘Arsenal is my preferred destination I will be happy if they sign me’: 23yr old super star have rejected Bayern Munich deal amid speculation that His mind is made up already to join Arsenal

The same outlet claims that Arsenal face competition from Bayern Munich for David Raya‘s signature, but the Spaniard’s priority is moving to the Emirates.

Raya has less than a year remaining on his current contract; however, he will still not come cheap.

His manager Thomas Frank has stated publicly that Brentford value their goalkeeper at £40m.

It remains to be seen whether Arsenal or Bayern are willing to pay that much for a shot-stopper who will be a free agent next summer.

However, Raya probably needs to leave the Bees after their decision to bring in Mark Flekken.

It could make more sense for David Raya to join Bayern Munich

There is no guarantee that Raya would be a starter at Arsenal, who already have Aaron Ramsdale between the sticks.

The same can be said if he joins Bayern. In Manuel Neuer, the German club have one of the best goalkeepers in the game.

That being said, the World Cup winner is still recovering from a broken leg and is now 37 years of age. If Raya comes in now and impresses, perhaps he could end up replacing him at the Allianz Arena.

The Spain international is a very good goalkeeper, recording a 77.7% save percentage in the Premier League last season (FBref). You can see why Thomas Tuchel would want him.

It appears, though, that his preference is to remain in England and join Arsenal.

If the Gunners do go on to sign the Brentford man, it will be interesting to see how Mikel Arteta manages him and Ramsdale. Both shot-stoppers, simply put, have too much quality to sit on the bench for a whole Premier League campaign. The likelihood is that someone will end up unhappy at some point.
