Arsenal is the only team on my mind right I’m not thinking about joining Chelsea’: £60m striker is set to dump Chelsea for Arsenal because of Financial fair play
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea want to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford.
That is according to journalist Ben Jacobs, who has reported which club Toney would prefer to move to in the January transfer window.
So, what has been reported about Arsenal, Chelsea and Brentford striker Ivan Toney? Let’s take a look.
What’s the story?
Well, according to journalist Ben Jacobs, Arsenal and Chelsea want to sign Ivan Toney from Brentford in the January transfer window.
Jacobs has noted that Toney is not at the top of the list for Chelsea.
The reporter has added that there is a feeling that the striker would prefer to move to Arsenal in January if both clubs come calling.
Jacobs told GiveMeSport: “It isn’t a given that Chelsea will just move for Toney. We’ve heard many links. Some within Chelsea like Toney, at the right price.
“But generally, the consensus is that Toney isn’t at the top of the list. There’s also a feeling that if Arsenal and Chelsea come in for Toney, he may prefer the move to Arsenal.
“He’s open to both offers and keen on staying in London, but if both projects came right now, Arsenal might turn Toney’s head more than Chelsea.
“So Toney is the gettable one in January, but the price could be as high as £80m.”
Arsenal a better option than Chelsea for Ivan Toney
In my opinion, Arsenal are a better option than Chelsea for Brentford and England international striker Ivan Toney, who has been described as “a world-class” player by former Manchester United goalkeeper Ben Foster.
Toney is 27 now and is in his prime. The striker will surely want to join a club who are challenging for the Premier League title and playing in the UEFA Champions League.
Arsenal are that club. The Gunners almost beat Manchester City to the Premier League title last season. And they are competing in the UEFA Champions League this campaign.
Chelsea may not even finish in the Premier League top four. There are also potential Financial Fair Play issues hanging over them after the punishment given to Everton.
Gabriel Jesus is not a very prolific striker. Eddie Nketiah is the second choice at Arsenal. So, Toney would get into the Gunners’ starting lineup.
Toney has made 68 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career. The England international striker has scored 32 goals and given nine assists in those games.
