Arsenal now want to sign set-piece specialist defender who’s already scored six times this season – He could give Gabriel Magalhaes headache for a starting spot
Arsenal are being linked with a move for young Dutch defender, Dean Huijsen, according to reports from Italy today.
A report from Calciomercato lists Arsenal as being one of the clubs keen on signing Huijsen. The 17-year-old is currently part of the Juventus under-19 set up and has been impressing.
Per Calciomercato, he is reported as being a set-piece specialist with a specific and rare like for taking penalties.
Of course, being a defender, that’s not the most natural skill to possess. However, Huijsen can look back at defenders over the years who have taken penalties. The likes of Stuart Pearce, Julian Dicks, and Leighton Baines all did it to good effect in the Premier League.
Huijsen’s name comes to light in the report amid potential interest from Arsenal, Bayern Munich and Barcelona. It’s suggested Juventus are looking to tie him down to fresh terms before any of those clubs can swoop.
Arsenal have made big plays in signing young talent in recent seasons. Along with their exciting Hale End academy products, the Gunners have focussed on buying young players who can improve.
Huijsen, 17, is compared to fellow Dutchman Matthijs de Ligt. Certainly, it’s high praise if that is indeed the level he is looking at.
Our View: Arsenal continue to be in the mix for the best
While there’s clearly a long way to go for Dean Huijsen in his career, it’s no surprise to see Arsenal in there.
It’s becoming a bit of a recurring theme of late. The Gunners are doing so well that almost every time a top young player is linked with a move away, the North London outfit get mentioned.
Of course, this would be one for the future for Arsenal. But Huijsen certainly seems a talent and the added bonus of his penalty taking is certainly eye-catching.
