Arsenal receive injury boost for Tottenham derby with further medical assessments planned
Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has eased injury fears in north London after he came through Norway’s Nations League defeats to Slovenia and Serbia with flying colours. The playmaker was forced to sit out of his club side’s 3-0 win at Brentford before the international break with a calf injury, sparking fears he would not be able to join up with his country.
The box-to-box midfielder had complained of some discomfort in his knee which is now set to be assessed by Arsenal’s medical staff.
Takehiro Tomiyasu was also recalled by Arsenal “due to club circumstances”, as per the Japan Football Association.
The versatile defender played 90 minutes as Japan beat the United States 2-0 in Germany and seemingly came through unscathed.
Tomiyasu headed back to London instead of facing Ecuador though as Arsenal look to manage his fitness following a difficult battle with muscle injuries this calendar year.
Meanwhile, Kieran Tierney sustained a head injury in Scotland’s 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland was subbed in correspondence with concussion protocols.
The left-back, therefore, missed his side’s 3-0 victory over Ukraine that saw them secure promotion to Nations League Group A.
Oleksandr Zinchenko missed international duty after picking up a calf problem that ruled him out of the win at Brentford.
It’s currently unclear whether he will be ready to return against Tottenham as he looks to reclaim his place ahead of impressive deputy Tierney.
