Arsenal reportedly think they can land ‘complete’ midfielder in January – he’s just won league title

Arsenal have been linked with Palmeiras star Danilo in recent months.

The Gunners were apparently hoping to sign the Brazilian in the latter days of the summer transfer window.

A move never materialised, but speculation linking Arsenal and Danilo continues to make the rounds.

The Evening Standard claimed in September that Edu and Mikel Arteta were still keen on the 21-year-old.

And The Sun added in October that Arsenal think Palmeiras will sell in January and the Gunners will offer £26million.

Arsenal’s next chance to sign a new midfielder will be in just under two months’ time.

And Danilo, who is protected by an £86million release clause, may well be the man the Gunners will move for.

Despite his young age, Danilo already has 138 appearances and five trophies under his belt for Palmeiras.

The latest one of those, the Brazilian league title, came on Wednesday night.

Palmeiras took on Fortaleza knowing that a win would give them the Campeonato Brasileiro Serie A title.

They duly won 4-0 to seal their 11th league title and second in five seasons.

“He has to play in the Premier League”

Back in April, Dudu – Danilo’s Palmeiras teammate – urged him to join a club like Arsenal in the near future.

“He is a star, he has to play in the Premier League,” Danilo’s teammate Dudu told ESPN, via Goal.com.

“I always tell him: ‘You have to play for Manchester United, or Arsenal.

“He has to stay calm, he is a kid who gives his all, but I tell him: ‘You are a player for Chelsea, those kind of teams’.

“He scores, he gets in the area, he helps with marking. He’s a complete midfielder in Brazilian football.”

On Twitter, some fans have compared Danilo’s style of play to that of Arsenal icon Gilberto Silva.
