Arsenal set to battle Tottenham Hotspur for highly rated £40.5m star, He is Arteta dream signing – Fabrizio Romano
Fabrizio Romano has told CaughtOffside that Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur wanted to sign Pau Torres from Villarreal in the summer transfer window, and so did Chelsea.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all explored the possibility of securing the services of the 25-year-old centre-back.
However, none of the Gunners, Spurs or the Blues were willing to pay the €40-45 million (£35.99-£40.49 million) that Villarreal wanted for the 25-year-old Spain international centre-back.
ARSENAL, TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR AND CHELSEA WANTED VILLARREAL’S PAU TORRES
Romano told CaughtOffSide about Torres: “Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham also explored this possibility but didn’t want to spend €40-45m.
“I think it’s a very good opportunity on the market; he has experience, quality, left footed … a very good CB.”
FUTURE TRANSFER POSSIBLE?
In our view, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur could all turn towards Pau Torres in the future, maybe as early as next summer.
The Yellow Submarine are unlikely to sell one of the best players in the January transfer window.
And Arsenal, Chelsea or Tottenham would not want to spend a lot of money on a new centre-back in the middle of the season especially when they do not need one.
However, anything is possible next summer.
Clubs do tend to refresh their squads every summer, and Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham could all decide to move for Torres in the summer of 2023.
