Arsenal set to lose another £35M promising star to Man City – player has now agreed to join Guardiola side instead of Arsenal
Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal and Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United have been linked with Gabri Veiga, but it seems that Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City could beat them to the signing of the Celta de Vigo central midfielder.
ARSENAL AND MANCHESTER CITY LINKED WITH GABRI VEIGA
Over the weekend, AS reported that Liverpool, Arsenal, Newcastle United and Manchester City all are interested in signing Veiga from Celta in the summer transfer window.
The report in the Spanish news outlet claimed that Arsenal, Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester City all are willing to pay the €40 million (£35 million) release clause of the 20-year-old Spain Under-21 international.
MANCHESTER CITY’S PLAN
Marca (print edition, page 34, March 28, 2023) have now reported that defending champions City have a plan to beat all their competitors to the youngster, described as a midfielder who would be “perfect” for Liverpool owners FSG by former Anfield star Jose Enrique.
The report in the Spanish publication has claimed that as well as triggering the release clause in Veiga’s contract, City plan to offer him a five-year contract worth £60 million (£52.75 million).
Marca have added that unless Real Madrid are willing to match that, the midfielder will go to City.
STATS
Veiga has made 18 starts and seven substitute appearances in La Liga for Celta so far this season.
The youngster has scored nine goals and given three assists in those games.
