Arsenal told they could sign ‘one of Europe’s top midfielders’ this January for just £20m – Player desperate for Emirate move
Darren Bent has urged Arsenal to make a move for Leicester City’s Youri Tielemans this January.
The talkSPORT pundit believes that the Gunners will land the Belgium international if they offer £20million.
Arsenal were heavily linked with Tielemans throughout the summer transfer window.
The Gunners were widely expected to make a move for the 25-year-old ahead of the transfer deadline.
However, they opted against moving for Tielemans, and didn’t sign anybody in the latter stages of the window.
Arsenal tried for Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, but to no avail.
The Gunners have enjoyed a stellar season so far, sitting top of the Premier League table.
They’re also in the knockout stages of the Europa League.
However, Arsenal could certainly do with increasing their strength in depth in order to maintain their momentum.
And Bent, speaking on talkSPORT, believes Tielemans fits the bill for Mikel Arteta’s side.
“You look at our squad, 1 to 11, and I can’t figure out where the weakest point is,” he said.
Andy Goldstein replied: “I’ll tell you where your weakness is – it’s in back-up.”
Bent continued: “I think it’s so important that Arsenal try and get another midfield player in January.
“Thomas Partey is the most important part of that Arsenal team. When he’s fit and firing like he is at the minute, Arsenal look like a completely different outfit.
“Xhaka looks completely different, the back four look more comfortable, belief what’s in front of them.
“I would try and get someone like Youri Tielemans. He’s 25 years old, you’ve seen the repertoire of goals he’s scored this season.
“Also he’s on a free at the end of the season. Go to Leicester in January, £20million, you get him.”
Arsenal cannot miss out on Tielemans
Leicester have been struggling this season, though they’ve found form with two wins from their last three league games.
Tielemans remains one of his side’s top players, weighing in with three goals and an assist.
As things stand, the 25-year-old is still in line to leave next year, with his deal expiring next summer.
Tielemans, who Brendan Rodgers has deemed “one of Europe’s top midfielders”, would be a great – and inexpensive – shout for Arsenal.
