Andre Onana has finished ahead of Arsenal stars Bukayo Saka and Martin Odegaard in the Ballon d’Or rankings and fans are stunned.
The Manchester United goalkeeper helped Inter Milan reach the Champions League final last season with some stunning saves.
While they were defeated by Manchester City in the final, it was a remarkable campaign for Inter, who also won the Coppa Italia.
But Onana’s form has not followed him to Old Trafford as he’s managed just four clean sheets in 14 games since United forked out £43.7m for his services.
However, at the Ballon d’Or ceremony this year, being presented on Monday night, the 27-year-old has not done too badly.
On a list of 30, Onana has finished 23rd on the list.
That has placed him one ahead of Arsenal star Saka, as well as Odegaard, who ended up in joint 28th.
It has already sparked quite a reaction on social media, with fans mystified by the rankings.
One fan wrote: “Lock off this whole award show, Onana finished higher than Saka.”
With some grimacing emojis, another said: “Onana ahead of Saka and Odegard in Balon D or ranking….”
A third put: “I have no words for this ridiculously ridiculous ranking. Onana really? Above Saka?”
While this fan said: “Onana is better ranked than Saka, Ruben Dias, Odegaard and Jamal Musiala. This is criminal.”
Another posted: “Onana is better than saka and odegaard. OK.”
Saka had a fantastic season for Arsenal last campaign as they narrowly missed out on the Premier League title.
In 48 appearances in all competitions, he scored 15 and assisted 11 and already has five goals and six assists this season.
Odegaard, meanwhile, has toiled somewhat this season but in 2022/23 was arguably Arsenal’s main man with 15 goals and eight assists in all competitions.
