BID ACCEPTED: Club accept Man United’s eye-watering offer to sign 31-goals this season’s striker as player travels ahead of medical today
The CDM position has been a long-standing problematic area for Manchester United. Former manager Erik ten Hag tried to address this issue by signing Casemiro from Real Madrid back in 2022.
The Brazilian displayed promising performances in his debut campaign at Old Trafford. Since then, the 32-year-old has been in decline so the Red Devils hired Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain last summer.
The Uruguayan has had a bright start this term but United need depth in the midfield department. Christian Eriksen has entered the final few months of his current contract hence he is likely to leave next summer and the Red Devils are reportedly open to letting Casemiro leave the club.
Kobbie Mainoo and Ugarte are the two trusted options new head coach, Ruben Amorim, currently has at his disposal but Mainoo is yet to turn 20.
Now, Italian outlet, TMW, report that Man Utd are keen on signing Atalanta midfielder, Ederson, having been impressed by his displays in Serie A in recent times and now advance with intensified pressure to lure the Brazilian.
United’s recruitment team have given the approval to hire him but neither the player nor the Italian club want a January move and a deal can only be possible next summer.
Atalanta don’t want to listen to an offer for anything less than £49.7m [€60m] with the South American still having a contract until 2027 at Gewiss Stadium.
Ederson can play in the defensive midfield position and is also efficient in the box-to-box role. He has been featuring as a double midfield pivot at La Dea under Gian Piero Gasperini.
The South American guided his team to win the Europa League title last term and has been helping them to mount a title charge this campaign.
