BID ACCEPTED: Man United’s latest bid for UCL winner has been accepted as medical scheduled to hold tonight
Manchester United could sign another central defender before the transfer deadline, according to Spanish publication Sport.
The Red Devils have already reinforced their central defensive department with the signings of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.
Despite this, Sport claim that United are ‘on the prowl’ and could make an approach for Barcelona star Andreas Christensen.
The 28-year-old was initially keen on staying with the Catalan giants, but his stance has lately changed.
The former Chelsea man wants to play in central defence. He is aware that he is not guaranteed a starting position at Barcelona.
Barcelona currently value him in the region of £21 million. United are open to signing Christensen if he decides to move on.
United unlikely to sign another centre-back
The Red Devils suffered an early setback in pre-season with Yoro picking up an ankle injury. He has been ruled out until November.
United are still well equipped in the central defensive department with De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez, Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans as options.
Lindelof, who has entered the last year of his contract, has been linked with an exit. However, he looks more likely to see out his deal with the Red Devils.
We don’t see the club spending big on another centre-back. Christensen has the ability to play as a defensive midfielder too, but he sees his future in the backline.
United head coach Erik ten Hag is unlikely to assure the 2021/22 Champions League winner with a regular starting role with the vast competition for places.
The speculation could be agent-driven to attract offers from other top European clubs.
