Most clubs in the world would prefer not to sign a player when he is injured. It is because of concern on how he would return from the issue and the clubs usually prefer to wait until he is fit again or focus on other transfer targets.
However, Manchester United are not most clubs. No one seems to understand how or why they go about a particular transfer business in a way that only they are capable of and we might be able to see some more evidence of the same.
El Bilal Toure is on loan at Stuttgart from Atalanta, for the entirety of the season and he has scored three goals from 13 appearances across all competitions. He has been injured since November and is yet to make a return.
The 23-year-old hasn’t really set the stage alight at Stuttgart so far. Despite this, rather inexplicably, as per Foot Mercato, Manchester United are now advancing to sign the Ivory Coast international and add him to the roster.
The French news source claim that the Red Devils are accelerating and can secure his signing for a fee of around £20.8million (25 million euros).
It is worth noting that Stuttgart don’t own Bilal yet but have an option to purchase him for around £15m. The German club are planning to trigger the same, not in anticipation for his future but rather to ship him to Old Trafford for a profit.
A 6-foot plus central striker, Toure has almost exclusively played as a central striker, meaning he would compete with Rasmus Hojlund for the number nine role.
Why Man Utd want to sign him though is something we are just not able to comprehend!
Imagine trying to replace an underperforming striker with a lower goals-per-game ratio than him! For the sake of the club, one can only hope that Manchester United don’t make this transfer but let’s wait and see how it plays out
