Arsenal failed to take advantage of Liverpool dropping points as they were surprisingly held at home to Everton in Premier League action. Martin Odegaard and Bukayo Saka arguably had the best chances of the game but both were denied brilliantly by Jordan Pickford.
Mikel Arteta will have seen the game against one of his former clubs as a chance to secure another three points but the Gunners looked rather tepid in attack. The return of Gabriel Magalhaes from injury was certainly a boost and while Arsenal kept another clean sheet, they could not find the back of Everton’s net.
As a result of the goalless draw, the Premier League table looks very similar to how it did before the Saturday afternoon games with Arsenal still below Chelsea and six points behind Liverpool. Arteta and his players can respond very quickly though with five games to come in the space 18 days.

January 1 vs Brentford (A) at 5.30pm – Premier League
January 4 vs Brighton (A) at 5.30pm – Premier League
January 15 vs Tottenham (H) at 8pm – Premier League
Arsenal will be hoping to make up ground on Liverpool in the next few weeks as the Premier League title race heats up. The fixtures schedule does not get much easier for Mikel Arteta and his players either side of Christmas with three challenging away games arriving in the next few weeks.
The first of those is next weekend at Selhurst Park against Crystal Palace, three days on from the two teams facing off in a Carabao Cup quarter-final.
Following that, the Gunners are back on home soil to face Ipswich Town after Christmas. To kick off 2025, Arsenal must travel to Brighton and Brentford in the space of three days with both teams very strong on their own patch. A North London Derby will also come very soon as Arsenal look to make it seven wins out of nine over Tottenham.
