BREAKING: Arsenal set to complete another £35m new signing today after personal terms was agreed with the club yesterday
Jaap Stam has backed Arsenal new signing Jurrien Timber to be a success in the Premier League as Arsenal look to finalise a £38m deal for the Ajax defender.
Mikel Arteta had been keen on strengthening his defensive options ahead of next season and it seems as if Arsenal have their man.
With a £38m deal in place for Timber, Arsenal are now finalising a deal with his medical already out of the way.
Stam thinks that Arsenal are getting a top player in Timber and he has backed him to be a success in the Premier League
“He’s a very good player that we all like in Holland,” Stam told charleswatts.football. “So for him, making that step to Arsenal is a very positive one.
“And when I look at Arsenal, I see a team where all the players are very comfortable and very dominant on the ball as well so I think he can be very successful in doing that for them.”
The Dutch legend thinks that with better players surrounding Timber, they will be able to bring more out of him.
“We all know the ability he has on the ball,” he added.
“At Ajax we can all talk about his performances last season, but he was still one of the best players. He was almost the only one who took the initiative, who showed quality
“The other players all found it very difficult to show their ability and that’s why for him it’s good to make this step because the players around him at Arsenal are much better, will show more quality and take up better positions in small areas so he can be more decisive with his passing
“He’s shown when he plays with better players around him that he can be an exceptional player.”
With Kai Havertz already through the door and deals for Timber and Declan Rice close, Arsenal fans will be in good spirits ahead of next season.
The Gunners will start their Premier League campaign against Nottingham Forest next month, following the Community Shield final against Manchester City
