Arsenal are likely to spend big on a marquee striker at the end of the campaign.
The Gunners have had Kai Havertz as their main centre-forward this term, but the Germany international has been inconsistent, with 15 big chances missed in the Premier League alone.
Havertz has been ruled out for the rest of the season after a hamstring injury. Regardless of this, the Gunners are expected to make a huge outlay on a new marksman this summer.
Spanish outlet Sport today (page 13) claim that Barcelona have a long-standing interest in Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak but are unlikely to afford his signature in the next transfer window.
The Magpies are expected to demand at least £83 million for the former Real Sociedad man. Barcelona don’t have the funds and will likely focus on signing a left-sided winger.
This is reportedly a boost for other suitors. Several clubs including ‘Arsenal want him’.
Isak has a ‘verbal agreement’ to leave the Magpies in the summer. However, the scenario could be different if the Tyneside outfit were to qualify for the Champions League next season.
In that case, Eddie Howe’s side ‘will want to keep’ the Swede for the 2025/26 campaign.
Isak would be a statement signing for the Gunners
The 25-year-old has been in exemplary form for the Magpies this season. He has accumulated 19 goals and five assists. His performances have been ‘world-class‘ as described by Alan Shearer.
He would be a perfect summer acquisition for the Gunners, considering his all-round attributes.
Isak is good with the ball at his feet and can dribble past defenders with pace. He is gifted with brilliant shooting ability and can create chances for his teammates with his passing range.
The Swede has a shot-to-goal conversion rate of 26 percent in the English top-flight this term. This is significantly higher than Havertz’s (17). He would be an upgrade on the ex-Chelsea man.
Arsenal must hope that the Magpies don’t qualify for the Champions League. Even then, we would be surprised if Newcastle part ways with him for anything less than £100m this summer.
Isak would be a statement signing for the Gunners, and could transform them into potential front-runners for the Premier League title next term due to his impressive goalscoring prowess.
