BREAKING: Man united are already plotting a move for another superstar just few hours after completing the signing of Andre Onana- Player is already aware of Man United’s interest ‘very keen’ to join- Erik Ten Hag rates him as the ‘best Sabitzer’ replacement
Man United might find themselves in a state of conundrum with regard to strengthening their attack. There’s a serious void for a striker in Erik ten Hag’s squad, but the club’s hierarchy are struggling to find a quality option that fits their budget, with the latest target Rasmus Hojlund being quoted £60million by Atalanta.
However, Ten Hag has a make-shift solution to his centre-forward problem at Carrington, and it’s understood United have found a breakthrough in negotiations to secure his long-term future.
Marcus Rashford proved to be an excellent option in the middle of the attack last season, becoming the first United player since Robin van Persie in 2013 to touch the 30-goal mark in all competitions.
But the 25-year-old headed into the summer with just 12 months remaining on his contract leading to uncertainty over his future. PSG, who are bound to lose Kylian Mbappe either this summer or the next after the Frenchman confirmed his intention to not sign a new deal, held interest in the England international.
Fortunately for Ten Hag, his only reliable goal-scorer is going nowhere anytime soon, as United have reached an agreement in principle with Rashford over a five-year deal.
As per The Athletic, Rashford rejected more lucrative offers from England and abroad to extend his stay at Old Trafford. However, the agreed deal is no bargain, with United set to raise Rashford’s salary from £250,000 per week to £375,000 a week until 2028.
The entire length of the contract would see the Englishman take a massive £97.5million home, making him one of the highest earners ever at Carrington.
United are certainly committing a big overall package to keep hold of their academy graduate, but to some degree, it’s understandable considering his importance to the squad.
Should Ten Hag goes into the new season without any new striker, Rashford is once again going to be his go-to goal-getter.
