Manchester United are willing to battle Barcelona to acquire the services of Fiorentina star Sofyan Amrabat this summer, according to journalist Sara Meini on Twitter via Spanish outlet Fichajes.net.
The Red Devils are looking to add reinforcements to the middle of the park this summer. To that end, the Moroccan is one of the players being eyed by the Old Trafford side.
However, the Blaugrana are also interested in the midfielder. Apart from the Camp Nou side, Atletico Madrid and Italian giants AC Milan also have the 26-year-old on their radar.
As things stand, the two La Liga teams and United are leading the race to get a hold of Amrabat’s signature. The Moroccan is valued at around €30 million at the moment. However, it seems a bit steep, considering his contract is set to expire next summer (transfermarkt).
The midfielder has been at Fiorentina for a few years now. However, in the 2022/23 campaign, the 26-year-old caught a lot of people’s attention, especially with his performances in the Qatar World Cup.
At the moment, Barcelona have the likes of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, Gavi, Frank Kessie and Ilkay Gundogan in their ranks. However, Xavi will be without Sergio Busquets for next season.
On the other hand, Erik ten Hag relied on Casemiro heavily in the previous campaign. Christian Eriksen, Fred and Scott McTominay had their moments under the Dutch manager, but they were inconsistent.
Without the former Real Madrid star, the Red Devils had issues getting positive results. We seemingly lack adequate cover for the Brazilian in our ranks.
In order for Ten Hag to take us back to the top, the Old Trafford side evidently need a competitive squad. Amrabat is capable of adding quality to any squad. But will the Manchester-based club be able to pip the competition to his signature? Only time will tell.
