BREAKING Man United now want to sign two-time title winner to replace 26yo star,as Ten Hag wants to reinforce His squad after what happened yesterday – Sky journalist
Manchester United are exploring a move for Benfica goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos with the possibility of Dean Henderson leaving the club.
Henderson has made the United bench for the first two games of the new Premier League season, but the 26-year-old is likely to leave before the transfer deadline.
Nottingham Forest have an interest in re-signing him while Crystal Palace have recently joined them in the race. He could depart on loan with an option to buy.
Fabrizio Romano has now revealed that United are weighing up a move for Vlachodimos, who was first linked with the club during the 2022/23 season.
Vlachodimos would be a good deputy for Andre Onana
The Greece international has been a regular starter for Benfica over the past five seasons, but the Portuguese outfit could be prepared to offload him.
The club recently signed a talented young keeper in Anatoliy Trubin. The 22-year-old could become their first-choice if Vlachodimos heads for the exit door.
The 29-year-old would be a good deputy behind Andre Onana, given he has impressed with his passing ability. He completed 80 per cent of his passes last term.
Vlachodimos has also excelled with his reflexes between the sticks. Last season, he played an important role in Benfica’s run to the Champions League quarter-final.
The two-time title winner is valued at €16 million by Transfermarkt, but we won’t be surprised if Benfica hold out for a higher fee. He only signed a new contract in March.
In our opinion, the Red Devils are likely to propose a season-long loan deal for the 33-cap international with an option to buy during next summer’s transfer window.
