BREAKING NEWS: Emergency board meeting currently ongoing as Man United most valuable player announces shocking departure today – Meeting currently ongoing between the directors and the Glazers to address the issue

JJ Gabriel informed Manchester United that he planned to move on last summer and thanked the people at the club for all they had done, according to The Athletic.

However, Man United organised an emergency meeting in June, the day after Gabriel returned from holiday, and changed his mind.

The 15-year-old has trained with the first team a couple of times this term after manager Ruben Amorim watched footage of him during internal flights on the pre-season tour.

Manchester City were among the clubs seriously interested in signing Gabriel in the summer, and several European clubs are tracking him.

Barcelona continue to monitor him, but Man United are desperate to hold on to him.

United officials convinced Gabriel and his family that he has a future at the club, presenting him with the pathway to the first team during that June meeting.

He made his Old Trafford debut yesterday, scoring the only goal against Peterborough United to send Man United Under-18s into the fourth round of the FA Youth Cup.

It is unknown whether he will make his first-team debut this term, but he could be closer given how impressive he has been in training sessions with the senior players.

Man United host Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup third round next month, and Amorim could look to name a strong squad as it is the only competition they have a chance of winning this term.

Gabriel may need to wait until next season for his debut, and he will need to keep on improving and proving himself until then.
