BREAKING NEWS: He sustained a nasty injury in training today while trying to give a trivela pass and the doctor have confirmed he’ll be unavailable tomorrow”, Michael Carrick confirmed another fresh injury of Key man united player in training session today

Mason Mount has handed Manchester United a big boost, having returned to training ahead of their Premier League clash with Aston Villa on Sunday (2pm). Four United players could still miss out through injury, though.

The 27‑year‑old has missed the last six games after picking up an injury in the early weeks of Michael Carrick’s reign, but he is now back in training and could return to the matchday squad. “Mason is back with the group, which is fantastic,” said the interim head coach.

“He’s an important player for us, Mason, and to have him back and involved is a good step for us. He is not 100% in terms of back, because he’s only trained a very small amount of time, but he’s back and that’s good for us.

“We’ll see whether he’s involved or not on Sunday, but it’s a big step for him, so we’re happy with that.”

There is also is hope that Noussair Mazraoui, who was forced off late in the defeat to Newcastle with a foot injury, could return.

For Villa, they remain without Youri Tielemans (ankle/foot) and long‑term absentee Boubacar Kamara (knee), while Matty Cash (calf) will undergo a late fitness test.

The right‑back picked up the injury in last week’s defeat to Chelsea, having only just returned from a previous problem that kept him out against Newcastle and Brighton.

“Matty Cash, he is progressing well,” the Villa boss Unai Emery said.

“Tomorrow we will see if he can be with us on Sunday or not. Tielemans is progressing well, but is still working individually.”

Captain John McGinn returned from injury in Villa’s 1-0 Europa League win at Lille and is a contender to start on Sunday.

United go into the game having lost only one of their eight matches under Carrick, and against Villa they have been beaten just twice in their last 37 home meetings.
