Christian Eriksen was instrumental in Manchester United’s comeback against Nottingham Forest.
The Danish midfielder was brought in to replace the injured Mason Mount and was fantastic for Erik ten Hag‘s side.
The 31-year-old scored the first of United’s three goals in their fantastic comeback at Old Trafford, which gave United the much-needed momentum following a horrendous opening five minutes.
It looked destined to have been a terrible day for the Red Devils, but it ended up being a vintage Ten Hag performance.
Eriksen admits it looked like a ‘long day’ against Forest
Speaking with MUTV following the win, Eriksen admitted that when the Red Devils went 2-0 down he did in fact fear for the worst.
“You feel very unlucky with the second goal definitely, that it could be a long day, but, luckily, it changed,” Eriksen told United’s media.
The second goal was unlucky, but it simply wasn’t good enough in the first five. Two sloppy goals meant United were chasing the game.
Luckily we had many players on top form – most notably Bruno Fernandes who was electric throughout.
Eriksen also spoke about his goal and how that was the catalyst to turn things around for United.
“It’s one of those where you are just in the moment and you can’t control it because you need [it], you don’t have the luck to be in a good place,” Eriksen said
Eriksen backed Rashford, despite his poor start
The main reason Eriksen was in the right place was down to his belief that the struggling Marcus Rashford would provide the correct ball into the six-yard box.
Rashford looked a lot better yesterday and was particularly instrumental in the first, beating his man and putting it on a plate for Eriksen.
United’s first goalscorer also spoke about his trust in Rashford’s ability, despite his really awful start to the season.
“I was expecting Marcus to go around his man, which often happens, and then really just try to be in the area where the ball might end up and, luckily, I had a striker’s nose it to be at the right place.”
Hopefully, this is a sign of things to come from Marcus. He did look a lot sharper and probably felt a lot more comfortable out on the left wing.
Nw he just needs to add goals back to his game. We have every faith, just like Eriksen, he’ll do just that.
