Arsenal were held to a 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace in Wednesday’s Premier League meeting at the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners managed to avoid defeat against the Eagles, which postponed Liverpool’s Premier League title celebrations for the time being.
Arsenal twice took the lead against Crystal Palace, but they were twice pegged back by Oliver Glasner’s side in North London.
Jakub Kiwior opened the scoring in the third minute before Eberechi Eze drew Palace level in the 27th minuter.
Leandro Trossard then had Arsenal 2-1 up just before the break, but Jean-Philippe Mateta scored an 83rd-minute effort for a share of the spoils.
William Saliba made a big mistake at the back, gifting the ball to Mateta in a dangerous position and enabling the Palace man to lob David Raya from range.
Arsenal fans were split over Saliba ahead of next week’s huge Champions League semi-final first-leg meeting with Paris Saint-Germain.
Some Arsenal fans optimistic about William Saliba and others seriously worried
Some Arsenal fans tried to look on the bright side regarding the mistake, hoping Saliba has got it out of his system.
One fan wrote on X: “Fair enough, Saliba cashing in on his mistakes ahead of PSG.”
Another said: “Saliba brother I hope you’ve got these mistakes out of your system before PSG.”
And another supporter wrote: “Saliba’s mistake better mean a flawless two leg performance against PSG.”
However, other fans were genuinely worried about Saliba’s form, considering it’s not the first one he has made in recent weeks.
“Ben White better play CB cos I don’t understand Saliba,” one supporter wrote.
“Same nonsense with Madrid, now with Palace, when our next match is PSG.”
Another said: “Saliba making another big mistake so close to PSG is the most worrying thing in this game.”
And another wrote: “Saliba has been very complacent and error-prone recently.
“Got bullied by Budimir and while he was great at the Bernabeu gave Vinicius a goal.
“Some of it is lack of intensity in games or nothing to play for but PSG are top pressing team very quick in transition.”
How William Saliba performed against Crystal Palace
Saliba was solid for most of the game, looking calm and composed as he normally does – but that ends up becoming almost insignificant with an error of such magnitude.
The Frenchman’s lapse in concentration, which directly set up Mateta and led to a goal for Palace, is something he will need to stamp out completely by the time they play PSG.
