Manchester United has a long list of transfer priorities this summer, but financial constraints mean big money moves are impossible in every position.
Ruben Amorim has got his team playing the best football of his reign so far, with back-to-back three-goal margin wins.
This long overdue form shows that Amorim’s request for time was justified, with the storm – hopefully – now weathered, hopes will now be pinned on a successful summer transfer window to turn the Manchester United team into a top-four side once again.
Fabrizio Romano outlined four positions United are keen to strengthen this summer, while it also seems like we can add a right wing-back to this list considering links to several options so far.
So with the budget likely not going to stretch to cover all of these positions, Carrington could be called upon to provide solutions in these five positions, excluding players who already debuted or signed aged 18 such as Sekou Kone.
Centre-back – Godwill Kukonki
In the centre-back department, Manchester United are well stacked in terms of talent with Ayden Heaven, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Lisandro Martinez and Matthijs de Ligt all viable options at least until summer 2026.
However, Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof are both set to depart in the summer, which leaves a gap and instead of spending big, Amorim could already be preparing Godwill Kukonki to step up.
Amorim took an immediate shining to Kukonki when he arrived at United, promoting him to first-team training and even including him in the squad against Arsenal back in December.

The injury to Heaven could see Kukonki’s step up could come sooner than anticipated, with another left-footed central defender option needed.
Right wing-back – Bendito Mantato
Another priority is right wing-back, with United’s move for Geovany Quenda collapsed, alternatives must be considered.
One reason United may have been open to not going all in for Quenda is that there is a potentially better replica coming through the ranks.
Bendito Mantato is the perfect Quenda alternative, with U21 boss Travis Binnion already claiming the club rate him highly, predicting he has a ‘real chance’ of making it at the club.
Central midfield – Tyler Fletcher
Central midfield is another position in which United will be keen to make an addition, with the club hoping Casemiro will leave.
So reinforcements are needed to partner Manuel Ugarte or Bruno Fernandes and this season Tyler Fletcher has established himself as one of the academy’s best.
This season across U21 and U18 levels, Tyler has 11 assists and three goals for United as he has developed really well as a midfielder.
He thrives dictating play in the ilk of Michael Carrick and has terrific vision which allows him to find teammates making runs in behind which explains his high assist figures.
Attacking midfield – Jack Fletcher
Amorim will also want to see additions made in behind the striker with a lack of attacking midfielders right now in the squad.
Jack Fletcher therefore should make the step up. Jack is probably the most likely to be named United academy graduate 254.
Jack Fletcher has consistently proved too good for youth football and has become a regular on Amorim’s bench so it would make sense if he was being primed as an option to step up in the summer.
Striker – Gabriele Biancheri
Chido Obi is already an option up front, and if United are looking for further solutions, it could be time for Gabriele Biancheri to finally get his chance.e
Biancheri has been on fire this season for the academy, scoring 22 goals and adding five assists across U21 and U18 levels, which makes his lack of chances up a level baffling.
United are planning Biancheri’s promotion, and this summer could be the perfect time when there is a shake-up in the attacking ranks at Old Trafford.
Biancheri would offer something different to Obi and Rasmus Hojlund as he is less physical but very clinical and offers a lot in the build-up which could be a useful option in the squad.
