The revamped Europa League league stage is coming towards a conclusion.

Manchester United, Tottenham and Rangers are competing in Europe’s second-tier club competition this term and are vying to reach the knockout stage.

The biggest change relates to the competition’s group stage, which has become a single 36-team ‘league stage’. Each club will face eight different teams, with four home fixtures and four away. The top eight overall advance directly to the round of 16.

Teams that finish ninth to 24th will then compete in the knockout play-offs, with victors progressing to the last 16.

The knockout phase remains the same, with teams competing in a two-legged tie in the last 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals before the one-legged final in Bilbao on May 21.

Who would Manchester United play in the next round?
Manchester United currently occupy fourth place and a win against FCSB in their final game will guarantee them a top-eight finish to go straight into the round of 16.

If they stayed in fourth at the end of the league phase, they would face the winners of the play-off phase involving the teams placed 13th, 14th, 19th and 20th.

The teams currently in those positions going into the final round of the league stage are Rangers (13th), AZ Alkmaar (14th), FC Midtjylland (19th) and Elfsborg (20th).
