“They will win it” – Cristiano Ronaldo has made his opinion clear on the title race between Arsenal and Man City

Cristiano Ronaldo revealed who he would prefer to win the title between Arsenal and Manchester City in an interview conducted earlier this season.

At the weekend the momentum at the top of the Premier League swung in City’s favour, as Arsenal squandered a two-goal advantage to draw 2-2 with Liverpool.

Arsenal, who have now not won at Anfield since 2012, missed the opportunity to extend their seven-game winning run and go eight points clear of City at the Premier League summit.

And while they still have a six-point advantage over Pep Guardiola’s men, the City have played a game fewer than Arsenal and welcome Mikel Arteta’s side to the Etihad later this month.

Five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo, who left Manchester United in acrimonious circumstances back in November, made his opinion clear on who he would prefer to win the title out of Arsenal and City.

Ronaldo on the title race

Ronaldo conducted a tell-all interview with Piers Morgan weeks before his United departure, in which he was deeply critical of the Old Trafford club, its manager Erik ten Hag and the owners, the Glazer family.

However, the pair also spoke about football in broader terms, while Ronaldo admitted he wanted Arsenal to win the Premier League this term, should United fail to join them in the title race.

The 38-year-old expressed his admiration for Gunners boss Mikel Arteta and admitted he hoped to see them crowned champions.

When asked by Arsenal supporter Morgan if he would like Arsenal to win the league, Ronaldo confessed on Talk TV: “I hope so.

“Manchester first, and if not, Arsenal is some team that I like to see play.”

He added: “I like the team. I like the coach. I think they have a good team.

“And if Manchester United don’t win the Premier League, I will be happy if Arsenal do.”
