HANSI FLICK SAYS THE PLAYERS HE REALLY WANTED TO SIGN IN JANUARY TRANSFER WINDOW HAVE CHOSEN TO JOIN MAN UNITED.
Manchester United are set to be active in the January transfer window as Ruben Amorim looks to strengthen his squad for a push to get the Red Devils back into Europe.
United have no European football this season after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur in May and finishing 15th in the Premier League.
They beat Newcastle United on Friday night and will hope to continue that momentum into January with Wolves, Leeds United and Burnley to come in their next three games.
The Red Devils’ transfer business in the summer has proven to be encouraging so far with Bryan Mbeumo, Matheus Cunha and Senne Lammens all regular starters under Amorim. Mbeumo is off with Cameroon at the African Cup of Nations but will return to the starting line-up when he returns to Manchester.
Benjamin Sesko has been less of a regular but has by no means been a disastrous signing. After years of overspending on big names, United are keen to pursue a more sensible transfer strategy moving forward.
Man Utd strongly linked with AS Roma star Manu Kone
One name who has been linked with United ahead of January is AS Roma star Manu Kone.
Speaking to AS Roma Live, journalist Francesca Teodori spoke about Kone’s possible move to the Premier League.
She said: “It’s a fairly credible rumour. I’ve been told by multiple sources that he’ll leave Roma in June and join Manchester United.
“I don’t know if this has anything to do with the Zirkzee deal, he might have been included as a sort of counterpart. This remains to be seen, but what’s certain is that Koné is very keen on the destination and it looks like he could join United in June.”
Roma have been strongly linked with a move for United forward Joshua Zirkzee, who has been at Old Trafford since a £34.5m move from Bologna in the summer of 2024.
Who is reported Man Utd target Manu Kone?
Kone is a 24-year-old midfielder who was born in the Paris suburb of Colombes.
He spent time in various academies in French football before joining Toulouse in 2016, the club who he made his professional debut with in 2019. He moved to Bundesliga club Borussia Mönchengladbach in 2021 and spent three years with there before joining Roma.
He joined Roma on a season-long loan in 2024 with the deal including an obligation to buy, with the midfielder joining the Serie A side permanently in the summer.
The midfielder has made 66 appearances for Roma, scoring two goals and providing four assists. He is most comfortable in central and defensive midfield.
This season he has averaged just under two tackles per game along with around five duels won per 90 and 4.5 recoveries.
