Breaking news: Viktor Gyokeres to Man United transfer latest as wage demands emerge and decision made.
The wage demands of Manchester United-linked striker Viktor Gyokeres have reportedly been revealed, though only because Juventus have burst onto the scene and are said to be well on their way to making an offer.
Amid Ruben Amorim’s search for a new striker to spearhead his United side, the speculation of a reunion with a familiar face has been incessant. Gyokeres was the scorer of 66 goals under the manager during 15 months together at Sporting CP, so the logic would be he resumes such a record at Old Trafford.
But the process around the striker’s exit has not been a simple one with ‘fury’ from the player himself over the actions of his club president, who had a frosty back-and-forth with his agent.
Ultimately we are now said to be beyond that stage, and Sporting are ready to accept their No.9’s move on the terms of a ‘gentleman’s agreement’ below his €100m (£84m).
Whilst Premier League rivals Arsenal have been the other team most-talked about at this stage, Corriere dello Sport now suggest Juventus are the new threat to watch out for.
They explain how The Old Lady have seven players on their roster ready to be sold, including striker Dusan Vlahovic and midfielder Douglas Luiz. For that duo alone they wish to recoup €60m (£51m).
They can then launch an €80m (£68m) offensive for Gyokeres, made up of a €70m (£59m) up front fee and €10m (£9m) worth of add-on bonuses.
It is described as a ‘complex web’, but one ‘worth weaving’ due to the Sweden international’s return of 97 goals over the past two seasons.
Helping their cause has also been the past sales of Wojceich Szczesny, Federico Chiesa, Arthur Melo, Mattia De Sciglio and Tiago Djalo – all freeing up essential funds from Juve’s wage bill.
Their extra sales this summer means even more will be available, with the Italian publication adding that they will then be able to meet Gyokeres’ expectation to earn €7.5m (£6.3m) per year as a player in Turin.
That would equate to €145k (£120k) per week, and gives United their first indicator as how much Gyokeres may set them back in addition to the transfer fee involved.
Scandinavian publication FotbollSkanalen add this would be a huge increase on the €2m (£1.7m) the 27-year-old takes home per year at Sporting.
Finally, clearing up some discrepancies around the sell-on clause involved in the deal are Portuguese outlet A Bola.
They understand that Sporting initially agreed to hand over 15 percent of their earnings from the future sale of Gyokeres to his former club, Championship club Coventry City.
Last summer that dropped to 10 percent and although there were some reports that Coventry no longer had that agreement in play, they say it is still active and they still stand to make a ‘significant’ amount from the impending transfer.
