BREAKING NEWS:Arsenal close in on €46m signing as Gunners are backed to seal deal in the ‘next 48 hours’ – Fans await for the big announcement coming up
Arsenal are now closing in on a deal for Ajax defender Jurrien Timber with the deal set to be finalised in the next 48 hours according to reports.
Timber has been a player of interest for quite some time now and Arsenal are in pole position to secure his signature.
The defender started in all 34 Eredivisie matches last season and has been one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe.
According to Florian Plettenberg, a deal for the 22-year-old is set to be concluded in the next 48 hours.
“Understand it’s almost a done deal,” Plettenberg confirmed on Twitter.
“Total agreement expected in the next 48 hours. Total package: €41m transfer fee and €5m possible bonus payments.”
This will come as great news to Arsenal who have been hot on the heels of Timber for quite some time now.
Timber will immediately push for a starting point in Mikel Arteta’s side and will keep William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes on their toes.
While plenty of fans and pundits are positive about the potential move, former Ajax defender Jaap Stam thinks that Timber should consider staying where he is.
“He really has a lot of potential but he doesn’t have to make a choice for money or a big-name [club],” Stam told Algemeen Dagblad. “At Ajax, he has the guarantee of playing for trophies.
“But what I would really consider if I were him is how and with him Ajax are thinking of hitting back. And if staying is an option for him, maybe he should keep himself informed.”
The 22-year-old fits the profile of player Arteta has generally gone after at Arsenal and will be a natural fit into their youthful squad.
