‘Can run all day’: Matt Doherty gushes over midfielder who has reportedly impressed Arsenal
Tottenham Hotspur right-back Matt Doherty has raved about Arsenal-linked Federico Valverde on Spurs’ official YouTube channel.
Doherty, who has been playing as a right wing-back under Tottenham head coach Antonio Conte, has been hugely impressed by the energy of the Real Madrid star, who has been linked with Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal.
Defensa Central reported in October 2022 that Arsenal scouts were impressed by the Uruguay international for Madrid against Shakhtar Donetsk in the UEFA Champions League.
While the Arsenal scouts were at the game to watch Shakhtar winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, they were hugely impressed by Valverde, according to the report, which we covered here on HITC Sport.
Doherty and his Tottenham teammate Ryan Sessegnon have included Valverde in their World Cup XI.
They were not allowed to have any Tottenham player and could include only one footballer per country.
Valverde has played predominately as a winger for Madrid this season, but Doherty and Sessegnon have included him in midfield, a position that the Uruguayan can also play in.
So far this season, Valverde has made 12 starts and two substitute appearances in La Liga for Los Blancos.
The winger has scored six goals and given two assists in those matches.
Valverde, 24, has also scored two goals and given two assists in five UEFA Champions League matches for Madrid so far this season.
