‘Convince Him to join Arsenal’: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta begs Gabriel Martinelli to convince His £40m Brazilian Fellow to join Arsenal by JANUARY

Arsenal have made contact with the representatives of Gremio wonderkid Gabriel Mec, as per Brazilian website Globo Esporte.

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Gremio midfielder Bitello in the last transfer window, but they did not make a formal approach.

The decision was justifiable, given he would not have received a UK work permit, having not represented Brazil at a major tournament at any level.

Bitello could now be on his way to Russia with Zenit St Petersburg, but it seems the Gunners are tracking another young talent in the Gremio ranks.

Gremio recently agreed an image licensing deal with 15-year-old Gabriel Mec, and he is expected to sign a professional contract at the age of 16.

Arsenal have identified his huge potential, and Globo report that they have made an initial enquiry over a potential transfer for him in future.

The wonderkid won’t be allowed to move to Europe until the age of 18. If the Gunners were to sign him, he will only make the switch in June 2026.

Arsenal eyeing the next big Brazilian talent
Arsenal purchased Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian fourth-tier club Ituano four years ago, and he has developed into one of the most sought-after wingers in the world.

Martinelli’s success story should urge the Gunners to pursue more talents from Brazil. Marquinhos was signed last summer, but he is currently away on loan with Nantes.

The former Sao Paulo winger scored and assisted on his debut for Arsenal, but his role was restricted thereafter. It remains to be seen whether he can redeem himself.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Mec is an attacking midfielder, who can also play out wide. He has been a huge hit at the youth level, impressing with his pace and dribbling ability.

He will be turning 16 in April next year, and he is not far away from making his senior debut for Gremio. Arsenal may ideally want to sign him on a pre-agreement deal.
