DEAL CLOSE: Arsenal finally agreed £50m plus 10 ads on to seal Spanish Star signing tonight, player is in London with His agent, Medical to take place tomorrow once the paperwork is done tonight
Arsenal are willing to meet the release clause to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, according to Mundo Deportivo (today’s edition).
The Gunners are keen on signing a new midfielder during the current transfer window. Talks were recently held with the representative of Everton star Amadou Onana
Zubimendi has also been a long-term target for the Gunners and Mundo Deportivo report that Arsenal are one of the clubs who are ‘willing to pay’ his buy-out clause.
The north London giants are prepared to offer €60 million as early as this month, but a potential deal depends on the player, who has been reluctant to leave Sociedad.
Arsenal face battle to convince Zubimendi
Mikel Arteta’s side tried to sign Zubimendi from Sociedad 12 months ago, but the 24-year-old Spaniard was quite clear that he wanted to finish the campaign with the La Liga outfit.
In the summer, he had the same stance. The midfielder insisted that he was not going anywhere after getting the chance to play Champions League football at his hometown club.
Sociedad have since qualified for the round of 16 stage of the competition and in our opinion, the Gunners have a tough task on their hands to convince Zubimendi into a transfer.
Instead, they should look into a deal for Onana, who has already established himself in English football.
The Belgian is one of the best tacklers in the division and has also excelled with his duel-winning ability. He has won 2.6 tackles and seven duels per game this season alongside 6.4 ball recoveries.
His tireless workrate is another big strength of his. It has been reported that he could be signed for the same price (€60m). Arsenal could propose a loan deal with a buy obligation.
