DEAL COMPLETED: Arsenal finally complete the signing of Club player of the season, Fabrizio Romano confirmed as player now on His way for Arsenal Medical Today

Arsenal are looking to sign Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Sam Tickle before the summer transfer window closes on Friday night, according to The Athletic.

The Gunners want another goalie after Karl Hein left on loan and with Aaron Ramsdale also likely to leave, and the England youth international has emerged as a target.

Tickle was named the Player of the Season for Wigan last season after helping the League One club to a 12th-place finish despite starting the campaign with an eight-point deduction.

The 22-year-old kept 18 clean sheets in 52 appearances, making his debut for England under-21s in their 7-0 win European Under-21 Championship qualification win over Luxembourg in March 2024.

Arsenal are convinced he has what it takes to be their third-choice goalie as Espanyol’s Joan Garcia remains their option to replace second-choice Ramsdale.

However, whether the Wigan star is willing to let go of regular first-team football in the third division for a place on the bench of the North London club remains to be seen.

Arsenal want to sign at least one goalkeeper before the summer transfer window closes, and Tickle fits the bill as he would help boost their homegrown status in the first-team.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Dan Bentley was on their radar earlier but getting a deal done for their former youth player has proven tricky.

Tickle boasts the needed experience the Gunners are looking for having made 58 appearances for Wigan since making his debut in 2021.

He established himself as first-choice in goal last season, getting rewarded with a new four-year deal in May that runs until 2028.

Apart from his reflexes, the distribution and long kicks of the 6ft 2in youngster have impressed Arsenal, but convincing him to join them this summer would be a tough task.
